HISTORY OF MOBILE MYSTERY DINNERS

I managed the Bragg-Mitchell Mansion for ten years and while there, I did different things to raise money for the mansion which is a non-profit, 501(c) and owned by the Exploreum of Mobile.

One of the things I started in 2002 was THE MANSION OF MYSTERY – Murder at the Bragg, which was a program for murder mystery dinners held at the mansion. I did this as a volunteer and all money went to the Bragg. The program was a big hit and sometimes we would do as many as 12 plays a month, always using a date when nothing else was booked, so it was all extra income for the Bragg.

I resigned as manager of the Bragg in October, 2007, and thought that the murder mystery plays would stay with the Bragg because they had been so successful. However, The Exploreum decided to cancel the program, so I thought that would be the end of the plays.

After leaving the Bragg, I started getting phone calls at my home from companies and individuals requesting that I continue on with the plays. Some large companies had booked murder mystery dinners as their Christmas parties for their employees and they called me and said plans had been made and they wanted me to find a place to perform so they could stay with the original plan. So, I formed Mobile Mystery Dinners, LLC, and hit the street trying to find a place to perform. After looking at many places, I went to The Carnival Museum and spoke to Judi Gulledge, the Director of the museum. She and I agreed to join forces and MMD headquartered at The Carnival Museum, beginning  December, 2007, until 2016.  I moved the MMD headquarters to The Azalea Manor,  751 Dauphin Street.  We stayed at Azalea Manor until my lease ended, October, 2019.   Since that time, we have headquartered at both Central Presbyterian Church on Dauphin Street and Holiday Inn Airport on Springhill Memorial Drive and are presently headquartered at The Renaissance Riverview Hotel, 64 South Water Street.

MMD performs private and public plays.    We are available for private parties, fund-raisers of all kinds and any kind of special event. We can travel to your location for a private event or you can come to our location.  We have performed all over Mobile and Baldwin Counties as well as Florida and Mississippi.
